About Janie
I may be newer to Mah Jongg, but that is exactly why I understand how overwhelming it can feel when you are first learning. I have been playing for about a year, and it took me three different attempts at lessons before I finally stuck with it. Once I did, I was hooked.
With a degree in Education and more than 15 years of experience teaching, I know how to break things down into simple, easy-to-follow steps. My goal is to make learning Mah Jongg feel less intimidating, more understandable, and a lot more fun.

I’ve been playing Mah Jongg for over 50 years, inspired by my mother, who played for nearly 70 years and brought a deep passion for the game to our family. While she was a very serious player, I simply fell in love with the joy of playing.
Now, I enjoy sharing that love with others—helping new players learn the game in a fun, welcoming, and relaxed environment.

Maj Mob Class Descriptions
We offer structured beginner classes and guided play sessions tailored to guide you from learning the basics to playing full games with confidence. All materials are provided.
Maj 101
New to Mahj? This class is the perfect place to start.
If you’ve ever looked at the National Mah Jongg League card and felt completely overwhelmed, you are not alone. We teach Mahj in a simple, friendly, non-intimidating way that makes the game much easier to understand.
In Maj 101, you’ll start with the basics: learning the tiles, the rules, and how the game works. By the end of class, you’ll be comfortable playing a modified version of Mahj, understand how the game flows, and have a solid foundation to keep learning and playing.
No experience needed — just come ready to learn and have fun.
Maj 102
Ready for the next step?
Maj 102 builds on what you learned in Maj 101 and helps you move closer to playing the full game with confidence.
In this class, we will reinforce the basics, then introduce the deal, the Charleston, how to start choosing a line on the National Mah Jongg League card, basic etiquette, and simple strategies to help you begin making decisions during play.
We will use the National Mah Jongg League card in class. By the end of Maj 102, you’ll understand how the game comes together and be ready to play a full game of Mahj.
Guided Play
Looking to practice and refine your skills?
Guided Play is designed for players who know the basics of Mah Jongg (or have taken Maj 101 & 102) and want hands-on experience playing real games with an instructor present.
Play full games at a comfortable, relaxed pace while receiving real-time advice on hand selection, tile strategy, and card navigation. Ask questions as hands unfold and build confidence at the table.
All tiles, racks, and National Mah Jongg League cards are provided.

We love introducing the next generation to Mah Jongg! Our kid-friendly classes build focus, strategy, and patience, all while having fun around the table.
